We are pleased to be able to offer our Rising Stars program this fall. It is a transitional program that moves skaters from the CANSkate (or learn to skate) to the STARSkate program (figure skating program).
Rising Stars skaters will work on edges, turns, stops, spins and jumps in a figure skating environment. Skaters will also be introduced to the fundamentals of movement to music and expression.
- taught in a group format.
- instructed by our certified Skate Canada coaches.
- two 45-minute sessions per week.
- At the Canada Games Centre on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 5:45 pm and Thursdays from 4:45 to 5:30pm. The Thursday session times may change to 5:00 to 5:45 pm later in the fall pending ice availability.
Due to COVID 19, we will have special entry and exit measures in place which will be communicated to you prior to the start of the program. There will be a mandatory online parent information session scheduled via zoom. Both parents and skaters must attend. Two dates are available: September 15, 2020 or September 17, 2020 from 6:00 to 6:45 pm. Links to the zoom call will be available closer to the date of the meeting.
All Rising Star skaters must provide and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on the ice. Bicycle helmets are not permitted.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS FOR RISING STARS
Parents/Guardians of Rising Star skaters are required to volunteer. In a normal year, our major fundraiser are weekly bingos on Fridays from September to the current year to September of the following year with the majority of the bingos held between May and August. However, this year we anticipate bingos will only commence in May 2021 or later. As a result, the club is planning other fundraising such as a raffle and Purdys chocolate sales. We will keep you posted on when the fundraising campaigns will occur.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS due to COVID-19
Our team has worked many hours to produce a schedule for all Skaters that will satisfy the Canada Games Centre operational requirements and Chief Medical Officer of health guidelines. Additional information on what is expected by the skaters will be provided in a separate document and on our website.
Please note, a mandatory Skate Canada waiver provided on our COVID 19 website must be signed by both the parent/legal guardian and skater. You must submit the completed form PRIOR TO YOUR CHILD stepping on the ice.
Our preference is for you to submit the form in advance of your arrival by scanning a signed copy and emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org or dropping it off our mailbox at the Canada Games Centre. if you have not been able to scan and email the waiver, we will have a registration table on the first day where you can submit the form.
Refunds or ice credits will be available should we be unable to provide programming due to imposed COVID 19 measures or reduced ice availability that prevents delivery of our planned programs.
