Registration for the Rising Star program opens on August 3, 2024 for the 2024/2025 skating season. This program is for skaters interested in learning higher level CanSkate skills in a Figure Skating environment. It is a transitional program that moves skaters from the CanSkate (learn to skate) to the StarSkate (figure skate) program. Rising Star skaters will work on edges, turns, spins and jumps. Skaters will also be introduced to the fundamentals of movement to music and expression.
PROGRAM DELIVERY
- Lessons are taught in a group format.
- The program is instructed by our certified Skate Canada coaches.
- Participants skate two 45-minute sessions per week.
- The program takes place Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm from September 5, 2024 to April 24, 2025.
ENTRANCE INTO THE PROGRAM
Skaters can enter the program after having passed Stage 3 of the CanSkate program or by coach invitation/audition. Skaters who are in CanSkate but do not wish to proceed to the Rising Star program can continue in CanSkate to complete stages 4 to 6 of the CanSkate program.
Rising Star skaters must provide and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on the ice. Bicycle, snowboard or ski helmets are not permitted.

SKATE CANADA FEE
All skaters must be registered with Skate Canada and pay an annual membership fee. This fee covers a full year of skating from September 2024 – August 2025. The Skate Canada and administration fee of $59 is non-refundable and is added to the session fees in the registration system at checkout.

FIGURE SKATING GEAR SWAP: We are planning a figure skating buy and sell day on Saturday September 14th from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. You can bring skating related items for sale to the meeting room at the Canada Games Centre where volunteers will be available to help sell your items such as skating dresses, skates, and other skating related items. Note used helmets will not be sold.

Registration spaces are offered on a first come first serve basis. Program and sessions are subject to a minimum and a maximum number of registrants. If registration is full, please add your name to the waitlist. We may be able to increase capacity or offer a space to your skater after the registration closes or after the program commences. Arctic Edge Skating Club reserves the right to change programming if there is insufficient enrollment.
