This small, relaxed and welcoming competition has a fun and supportive atmosphere where competitors strive to do their best while celebrating each other’s successes. This competition is a great way to meet new skating friends, push yourself to try new events, and get inspired on your skating journey.

Categories

Skaters are invited to register for multiple events. As a single-ice competition your events will not overlap. Perform your Freeskate as well an Artistic. Try Solo Pattern Dance or put together a Group Showcase. We have Elements events, Special Olympics, and Adult skating categories as well.

Technical requirements

The Gold Nugget Championships is a Skate Canada sanctioned event and will follow the Skate Canada 2026-2027 technical requirements. Please visit the BC/YT Section website for the most current technical requirements pertaining to your event.

Getting to the Yukon

Whitehorse, Yukon is a direct flight away from several major cities including Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, and Yellowknife. In December it is served by both Air Canada and Air North, Yukon’s airline.

Gold Nugget Championships is pleased to be sponsored in part by Air North, Yukon’s Airline. Once you’ve registered for the event you will have access to several discounts including tickets on Air North. With two free checked bags each, and a warm cookie to enjoy on the flight, getting to the Yukon has never been better.

Getting to the rink

The competition is held at the Whitehorse Canada Games Centre, 300 Hamilton Blvd. It approximately 4 km from the Sternwheeler Hotel and accessible via public transit. The Route 101: City Central bus route picks up just outside the hotel and runs hourly. See the City of Whitehorse transit schedule for complete route information and fares.

Accommodations

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sternwheeler Hotel, in downtown Whitehorse. Just 4 km away from the Canada Games Centre, you can get to your event easily, then enjoy the shopping, museums and experiences of downtown Whitehorse. Competition registrants will have access to a discount code for booking at the Sternwheeler for $150/night.

If you’re extending your stay in the Yukon consider booking through Neighbourly North, a B&B-style service. Winter rates include 1-2 bedrooms starting at $150/night or 3+ bedrooms for $175.
